Children’s voices to warn about conservation in New Zealand

As part of raising awareness on nature conservation issues, the Representation of New Caledonia and the Embassy of France in New Zealand asked the opinion of the generation most affected by these issues: young children.
The year 6 to year 8 students from Otari School in Wellington gave their vision of the state of nature conservation through ‘lightning stories’. Through five short videos, twenty students aimed to alert the public of the wellbeing of some New Zealand endangered endemic species, and to suggest solutions to help them.

History of the Conference and Objectives of the 2020 edition

The Pacific Conference for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas was first organized in New Zealand in 1975. It has gradually become the benchmark conference for government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, donor agencies and individual experts concerned with conservation science and practices in the Pacific Island region.
The 10th edition of the Conference, organized by New Caledonia in partnership with the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) and the Pacific Islands Round Table (PIRT), is the first edition to have a high level ministerial segment in addition to scientific and civil society workshops and exchanges. Its vocation is to establish a shared program in favor of nature conservation for the next four to seven years, supported and implemented by the participating member states.
This “Vemööre declaration” will be the voice of the Pacific and will be carried in all regional and international forums (OUR OCEAN Conference, COP15, IUCN World Congress, as well as among members of the Pacific Islands Forum).
