AFFFF 2015: Alliance Française French Film Festival 2015 [fr]

A firmly established highlight on New Zealand’s cultural calendar, this year the Alliance Française French Film Festival will be launched in Auckland on the 19th of February. The fantastic selection of films will be projected in twelve cities across the North and South Islands, with the festival coming to a close on the 29th of April.

2015 Programme

The Embassy of France in New Zealand is proud to be long term strategic partner of this spectacular film festival. H.E. Ambassador Laurent Contini is delighted to see such a great selection of films returning to New Zealand : “Cinema is a favoured medium of expressing French culture, building on our society, our history and our way of life. The amazing line-up prepared for the new edition of the French Film Festival bears testimony to that ambition.”

Audiences will recognise crowd favourites including Omar Sy (Samba), Romain Duris (The New Girlfriend), and Emmanuelle Devos (Almost Friends) who deliver spectactular performances, while the touching The Bélier Family and Toronto International Film Festival entry Gemma Bovery will delight audiences.

La Grande Guerre

In light of the currently ongoing commemorations of the First World War Centenary, a section of this year’s festival has been dedicated to films depicting stories of war. Jean Renoir’s famed Grand Illusion follows French soldiers in a German Prison camp, Capitaine Conan is based on Roger Vercel’s autobiographical novel and is a multi-award-winning wartime epic, while the monumental Apocalypse WW1 has been painstakingly edited from more than 500 hours of archive footage.

2015 Education Outreach Programme

The 2015 line up also features the Education Outreach Programme which engages, educates and inspires student audiences by exposing them to French language in context. The program encourages discussion in the classroom through comprehensive study guides.
