Franco-New Zealand dance production Bbeals to tour New Zealand [fr]
Bbeals, a co-production between Footnote New Zealand Dance and Danses en L’R (Reunion Island) will embark on a national tour in March 2015.
An international collaboration between Footnote New Zealand Dance and French company Danses en L’R, Bbeals is a new dance work for all ages. Choreographed by French choreographer Eric Languet, Bbeals is the story of a Jennifer Beals fan club and of a mission to build a tower, like that of Babel. As well as movement, Bbeals involves original music, theatre and circus performance.
Following an artistic meeting between Languet and Footnote New Zealand Dance founder Deirdre Tarrant, Languet invited Footnote to Reunion as artists in residence at The Hangar, for a month in November 2014, to collaborate with Dances en l’R in producing Bbeals. After a reciprocal residency in Footnote’s Wellington studios in February 2015,Bbeals will premiere around New Zealand in March 2015, before returning to Reunion for performances there.
French dancer and choreographer Eric Languet danced with the Royal New Zealand Ballet from 1988-98, during which time he became a New Zealand citizen. After a decade in New Zealand, Languet headed home to establish his own dance company, Dances en l’R. In the last 15 years, his company has gained an international reputation for excellent contemporary dance.
