French Animation Professionals to participate in AnimFX [fr]

French animation professionals Véronique Encrenaz (Annecy Animation Film Market) and Michel Nicolas (CEO of French production company Folimage) will be in New Zealand in early November to meet with local animation experts and to participate in AnimFX, the annual Animation, VFX and Games conference held in Wellington.

From the 4th to the 5th of November Michel and Véronique will hold meetings with animation experts in Auckland. From the 5th to the 7th of November Michel and Véronique will participate in AnimFX.

Véronique will give a short presentation about the exciting times French animation cinema is experiencing. Michel will then explore Folimage’s story during a keynote lecture and discuss what has contributed to the success of Folimage through their signature feature films. Michel will speak about his current projects in production, including new transmedia initiatives.

AnimFX will also feature the exclusive New Zealand Phantom Boy premiere on Thursday 5 November. Phantom Boy is a 2D 2015 animated French film by Folimage production, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol, and produced by Folimage (See trailer below). Phantom Boy premiered at the last Toronto Film Festival to critical acclaim.

About Michel Nicolas

Michel Nicolas is CEO of Folimage, a world-renowned animation studio based in an historic ammunitions factory in France. He joined the animation world in 2000. With Jacques-Rémy Girerd, the founder of Folimage Studio, they launched the creation of the Cartoucherie project within a year. Michel was the general manager of the Cartoucherie before joining Folimage at the end of 2013.

Today, Michel is involved in every Folimage production and project with TV and cinema producers, such as their new feature film “Phantom Boy”. He is also the Vice-President of Imaginove, a digital images cluster which federates and contributes to the expansion of projects and businesses belonging to the digital content industry in France (Rhône-Alpes region).

About Véronique Encrenaz

Véronique Encrenaz is the Project Manager at MIFA (Marché International du Film d’Animation).

Between 1988 and 1994, after a brief stint at Acteurs Auteurs Associés where she began her professional career, she joined Président Films, an export company of French films, as a Technical and Export Manager. For the next two years, Véronique continued in the same position in the Film department at France Télévisions Distribution in Paris.

Her arrival in Annecy, at the beginning of 2005, gave Véronique the opportunity to join the Annecy Festival and Market team. Since 2011, she has been the MIFA’s Head of Projects, in charge of marketing the spaces and events for the film market, and is an expert on French animation.

MIFA and the attached Annecy Animation Film Festival are one of the largest animation-focused markets and festivals in the world. In 2015 the Festival screened about 500 films, welcomed 8250 participants and involved 83 countries.
