Fundraising evening for Christchurch
The French Ambassador’s wife, Mrs Jane Etienne, organised a fundraising evening for Christchurch at the Residence of France on Tuesday 29 March 2011.
Guests at the event were friends of Mrs Etienne from the New Zealand diplomatic, cultural and economic sectors. Some representatives of the French community in Wellington also attended the reception. All guests present gave donations to the Red Cross for the people of Canterbury.
The highlight of the evening was the auction of the services of the Residence of France’s Chef, Mr Stéphane Barbier. People bid to win a lunch for eight people prepared by Mr Barbier at the Residence of France. The starting bid was $650 and the winning bid was $2000. From donations made during the evening and from money raised by the auction, a total of $3000 was raised for the Red Cross Christchurch earthquake appeal.
What’s more, following the auction, a number of other guests showed their interest in having Mr Barbier prepare a meal for them at the Residence of France and offered to donate $2000 for his services with all profits to go to the Red Cross.
