Inauguration of the New Caledonia’s Cultural and Education Corner at the Alliance Française Christchurch [fr]
On Tuesday October 24, Dr Yves Lafoy, the Official representative of New Caledonia to New Zealand, and Mrs Stephanie Sew Hoy, President of the Alliance française de Christchurch, will inaugurate the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie” –New Caledonia’s Cultural and Education Corner - at the Alliance Française de Christchurch.
Funded by the New Caledonia Delegation in New Zealand, the creation of the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie ” is the response to strong demand from the 294 members and the 300 students of the Alliance Française de Christchurch.

From October 24, the Alliance Française will boast a unique and quality collection of art books, comic books, novels as well as CDs and DVDs, on the theme of New Caledonia.
The purpose of the creation of the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie”- the New Caledonia’s Cultural and Education Corner - is to:
promote Francophonie in New Zealand,
develop the relationship between New Caledonia and the Alliance française de Christchurch,
promote the Kanak culture and identity,
promote New Caledonia as a tourist destination to students at the Alliance française and their parents and families.
A representative of the Mayor of Christchurch, the Head of the Scientific and Cultural Office at the French Embassy, Stéphane Ré, representatives ofUniversity of Canterbury, the Christchurch Alliance française Committee and teachers, members and students of the Alliance française, as well as members of the local media will also be present at the inauguration ceremony.
On October 25 at 10 am, the Official representative on New Caledonia to New Zealand will be interviewed by Mrs Anne-Christine Berrut from radio station Plains FM, host of the French-language program at the Alliance française Christchurch.
From 12 to 1 pm, M. Lafoy, the Alliance française guest speaker of the month, will give a talk on New Caledonia’s integration within the Pacific region.
At 4 pm the same day, the Official representative on New Caledonia will give a lecture on the same topic to the students from the School of Languages, Social and Political Sciences enrolled at the University of Canterbury.
