New Caledonia represented at Auckland Food Show [fr]
New Caledonia’s flavors will be highlighted at Auckland’s Food Show from July 27-30. The show will be held at the ASB Showgrounds, Green Lane West, Auckland, from July 27 to July 30, 2017.
This annual gastronomic event is held every year in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. In 2016, the show received 30,000 visitors in Auckland who bought NZ$5.2 million (€3.4m) worth of products from the 286 stands represented.
The Food Show plays a key role in the growing consumer trend toward buying fresh ingredients and trying new flavours from around the world.
In 2008, 2009, and 2011, the Food Show won two top awards, from the Exhibition & Event Association of Australasia (EEAA), and Best New Zealand Show.
The New Caledonia Delegation in New Zealand, based in the French embassy in Wellington and represented by Yves Lafoy, Official Representative of New Caledonia to New Zealand, will co-sponsor the event, being present at the New Caledonia Tourism NZ booth together with New Caledonia Trade & Invest (NCT&I), New Caledonia’s one-stop shop for exports, and six New Caledonian companies.
The participation of New Caledonian companies in this national gastronomic event will raise New Caledonia’s profile among Auckland’s general public and boost travel reservations from New Zealand to the “destination New Caledonia”.
According to Yves Lafoy, "the participation of New Caledonia, New Zealand’s closest neighbor, in such an event concretely contributes to the implementation of the “Tourism component” of the New Caledonia-New Zealand Joint Cooperation Plan, signed in September 2016, which aims to define the framework and objectives of bilateral exchanges, in particular trade”.
"It also makes it possible to showcase New Caledonia’s specificities, from a culinary viewpoint to institutional - New Caledonia has a triple identity (French overseas territory, a European OCT, and a Pacific territory) - economic, social and environmental viewpoints".
As an exhibitor, New Caledonia Tourism NZ participation in the show will be widely publicised in a variety of print, digital and broadcast media, including on the event website.
In addition to the sale of New Caledonian food and beverages products at the New Caledonia Tourism NZ booth, visitors will enjoy free cooking demonstrations at the Food Theatre.
New Zealand’s top gastronomic chefs, including Annabel Langbein, Simon Gault, Michael Van de Elzen, Annabelle White, Ray McVinnie, and Nici Wickes, have confirmed they will take part in the Cooking Theatre event in Auckland.
Chef Nicolas Bourgois (Biography below), based in Nouméa (New Caledonia), will be the ambassador of the french cuisine at the Food Theatre event.
