What we do [fr]
Education and the French language
With 50,000 learners, French is the most taught foreign language in the New Zealand education system. The Cultural Office of the Embassy cooperates with schools and the New Zealand Ministry of Education to support the teaching of French at primary and secondary levels. It works with the National Adviser for French and the New Zealand Association of French Teachers (NZAFT) to promote quality teaching of the language through professional development programs for French teachers, including a yearly three-week immersion programme in New Caledonia, and the development of DELF French language certifications in schools.
It also supports the introduction of bilingual education programs in New Zealand schools. By working in close collaboration with education authorities and institutions of both countries, the Cultural Office seeks to develop links between the French and New Zealand education systems, including school exchanges and partnerships.
