Te Whare Hēra – Wellington International Artist Residency [fr]
In partnership with Te Whare Hēra Wellington International Artist Residency, the French Embassy in New Zealand has developed a special initiative enabling the participation of a French artist in the residency programme in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Te Whare Hēra the Wellington International Artist Residency, is a non-commercial initiative run by Massey University’s Whiti o Rehua School of Art and the Wellington City Council. This exciting new initiative is designed to bring contemporary international artists to live, work and exhibit in Wellington city. Artists are granted an impressive live/work studio suite situated within the prestigious Clyde Quay Wharf Development in downtown Wellington City.
The partnership with the Embassy of France will bring an outstanding French contemporary artist each year for the next three years (2016, 2017, 2018) at the beginning of each calendar year, between January and June.
The call for expressions of interests from French artists wishing to participate in this residency between January and June 2016 is now closed.
In addition to return economy airfares from France, this residency provides an apartment and adjoined studio and gallery suite within the Clyde Quay Wharf development. The artist in residence is also entitled to access to the equipment of Whiti o Rehua, a production budget of $2500 NZD and a grant of $1,000 NZD a month.
The objectives of the Te Whare Hēra residency programme are to offer a hospitable, generative platform for the production of high quality, innovative, creative work by international artists in Wellington, the creative capital of New Zealand, and to enable the best opportunities for the resident artist’s work to be experienced by various audiences. The residence also aims to foster connections and opportunities for ongoing exchange and collaboration. The inaugural artists in residence were Christian Thompson (late 2014) and current artist Sasha Huber (February to July 2015).
