A regional cooperation fund

The Permanent Secretariat for the Pacific has launched a call for applications for projects eligible for support in 2018 from the “Fund for economic, social and cultural cooperation in the Pacific”, commonly referred to as the “Pacific Fund”.

Created in 1985 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI), it contributes to the regional integration of the French territories in the Pacific: New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna.

In 2017, 1 of the selected projects involved a New Zealand partner:

2017 call for applications

The call for applications is open until 17 November 2017 (midnight NZ time), for projects starting in 2018. The Pacific Fund allocates on average € 30,000 per project.
To be eligible, projects must fall under one of the following categories:

  • Enabling French territories to be involved in the fight against climate change and in risk management for natural disasters. Projects helping States observe their obligations and implement the decisions made at COP21 and COP22 will be particularly appreciated.
  • Economic and industrial projects (feasibility study, impact study, training actions…)
  • Health security (fight against endemic diseases: non-communicable or due to infections)
  • Food security (fishery management, actions for economic and growth development)

Beyond these topic criteria, preference will be given to projects highlighting planned efforts for communication, efficiency measures, monitoring and follow-up using indicators and medium and long-term impacts.

Please note:

  • The projects must be jointly financed for at least 50% of the total sum of eligible expenses
  • Provision for recurrent projects should be made in the initial application, or may be the subject of a new application in subsequent years, without the automatic granting of successive contributions
  • Applications must be written in French. Download and complete your application (179Ko, Word, in French) and the budget form (21Ko, Word, in, French)
  • Projects must be submitted to the Cultural and Scientific Office of the Embassy of France in Wellington for New Zealand.

Beneficiaries will be strongly encouraged to present definite pledges of support from their possible funding partners.

The decisiveness of a Pacific Fund contribution for the project’s realisation will be an assessment criterion.
