Widespread heavy rain for parts of the North Island has now eased, but continues about the Banks Peninsula and Kaikoura Coast with southwest gales.

Particularly intense rain and/or wind are expected in the following areas:

Banks Peninsula
Heavy rain is expected to ease night. In the 15 hours from 9am this morning until midnight tonight, a further 50 to 80mm may accumulate on top of what has already fallen. Peak intensities 10 to 15mm per hour.

Kaikoura Coast and Banks Peninsula
Gale southwesterlies with gusts of 130 km/h are expected during today and should ease tonight.

HEAVY RAIN WARNINGS HAVE BEEN LIFTED FOR: Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taranaki, Tararua Range et Kaikoura.
