Working Holidays Visas

You can apply at the French Embassy in Wellington if:

1. You are a citizen of New Zealand
2. You are aged 18 to 30 the day of your application appointment
3. You haven’t already applied for this type of visa
4. You want to travel and work in France
5. You have no dependent children or relatives
6. You have enough money to support yourself while in France

Documents you’ll need

Note that the Visa Section will not make any photocopies for you.

1. Passport valid for at least three months after your return date

2. Photocopies of the photo page of your passport + previous Schengen visas

3. Completed and signed long stay application form with one recent passport photograph

4. Proof of financial stability (bank statement, property ownership). A minimum of 2500 Euros is required.

5. A cover letter in English explaining why you wish to go to France

6. Proof of subscription of insurance for one year covering health care (including hospitalization and repatriation).
Note that it is very important to take out an insurance policy which covers you for your entire stay in France as you may not be eligible for the French social security system.

7. Proof you are in possession of a valid passport and a return ticket, or a ticket to a country where you are guaranteed admission, or you have sufficient resources to purchase such a ticket.

8. A pre-paid and trackable return envelope with your address in New Zealand

9. The long stay visas fees. Payment exclusively by EFTPOS.

Lodging your application

 You’ll need to book an appointment at the Consulate in Wellington via the online booking system New Zealanders can apply only at this consulate.
 One appointment must be made for each passport holder.
Applicants will not be admitted to the Consulate if they do not have an appointment.
If applicants are unable to attend an appointment they should amend or cancel it via the online booking system

You can apply at the French Embassy in Wellington if:

2. You are 18 to 35 of age when you apply for your visa
3. You haven’t already applied for this type of visa
4. You want to travel and work in France
5. You are in good health
6. You have no dependent children or relatives
7. You have enough money to support yourself while in France

The intergovernmental agreement setting up a working holiday programme between France and New Zealand was signed in Paris on June 2 1999, and entered into force on April 6 2000.
