Vanuatu – French assistance following Cyclone Donna (10 May 2017) [fr]
France expresses its solidarity with the Republic of Vanuatu, recently hit by Cyclone Donna which caused major damage to buildings and crops.
Our thoughts are also with our compatriots in New Caledonia who were affected by this cyclone.
Immediate assistance will be made available to finance aerial surveillance, reconnaissance and assessment operations, as well as to deliver humanitarian cargo.
Our efforts are being coordinated with Australia and New Zealand in accordance with the FRANZ Agreement between France, Australia and New Zealand, which establishes a framework for regional coordination in the South Pacific in the event of a natural disaster.
France will continue to do everything possible to combat the effects of climate disruption. It will continue to stand alongside the island states, which will suffer the most as a result of climate change.
